SunWork Solar Project Lead (California Central Coast)
SunWork is a nonprofit solar installer with a mission is to help make solar more affordable and widespread with the help of trained volunteers. We empower adoption of solar power where it hasn’t been economical in the past.
The Project Lead we are seeking will be responsible for all aspects of a residential solar project: site surveys; proposal development; system design; permitting; equipment sourcing; managing volunteer installers; ensuring a safe job site; and commissioning the system. This is a great role for someone who is passionate about the environment, enjoys construction, and is looking to expand their breadth of experience in solar.
Responsibilities
- Perform site visits, assess potential for solar installation, understand customer needs and provide customers with a solar system tailored to their needs
- Design simple residential PV systems
- Submit for and obtain permit from the local building department
- Schedule the installation with the customer
- Set up site safety prior to installation
- Install the system with help from volunteers including on-the-job training and
- volunteer team management Conduct the building inspection for the completed system
- Process interconnection paperwork
- Bill the customer and collect payment
Qualifications
- Passionate about clean energy
- Excellent customer communications skills
- Ability to lead and manage a team
- Strong organizational skills; able to manage priorities, workflow, and follow-up
- Passion for training
- Embraces a culture of safety
- Experience installing solar PV systems; substantial experience with related trades also considered
- Previous design experience, ideally PV design but other design experience considered
- Understanding of building codes and the National Electric Code
- NABCEP Certification, Electrician Certification, or Contractor License preferred
- Computer skills including strong ability to communicate via email, utilize solar design tools, perform calculations, proposal preparation
- Bachelors or Associates degree in related field preferred
Work Schedule and Location
- Project Leads work 5 of 7 days per week with installations taking place on Saturday/Sunday
- Each Project Lead is expected to complete 40 residential installs per year
- We are seeking a Project Lead to cover the Central Coast Area, primarily San Luis Obispo County
- Much of the work will be completed in the field but computer work is often completed in a home office
